decadently dark hot cocoa


One of my favorite things about winter time is to cuddle up on the couch with a hot beverage in hand, and pop in a movie (most likely Pride & Prejudice- yes you may call me obsessed, Mr. Darcy gets me every single time). Hot chocolate is by far my favorite warm winter-time beverage- rich chocolate mixed with a flavor of many childhood memories of coming inside after playing in the snow all day or after a chilly night on the ski slopes and my mother having hot chocolate ready in hand- it just can't get much better than that! Being the chocolate lover that I am, I began to make up my own gourmet hot chocolate recipes several years ago rather than just using the Swiss Miss from the can. I believe I have finally perfected the recipe- it truly takes the hot chocolate experience to the next level.


  • 1 cup almond milk, unsweetened
  • 1 TBS honey
  • 1-2 TBS of unsweetened baking cocoa (adjust according to taste)
  • 1/2 TBS of coconut oil
  • 1 TBS of  semi-sweet dark chocolate chips
  • Dash of cinnamon


In a small sauce pan on medium heat, whisk together all ingredients. Warm until just before boiling, stirring and whisking often so that the chocolate chips are well incorporated and do not stick to the bottom of the pan. Pour into a mug and sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top!
